Who we are

SnapDiff.co Developer operates SnapDiff and is responsible for the personal information we handle through its website, documentation, extension, and support correspondence. Contact us at snapdiffco@gmail.com with privacy questions or requests. Service providers also process information under their own applicable privacy policies.

Your captures stay local

Screenshots, annotations, saved comparisons, and optional accessibility reports are stored in IndexedDB in the browser profile where SnapDiff is installed. Settings, usage counters, are also stored locally. SnapDiff does not upload your screenshots or accessibility reports, provide a cloud gallery, or automatically sync your library between installations.

Saved captures can include page URLs, titles, timestamps, viewport details, and language metadata. Accessibility reports can include element selectors and HTML snippets. Screenshots may contain personal or confidential information visible on a page. Review exports before sharing them; annotations do not securely erase information from unchanged originals.

Capture uses temporary access to the tab you invoke SnapDiff from. Chromium uses debugger access for certain features; Firefox uses browser capture and page-script APIs. A page you capture may still contact its own services, including when it reloads. This policy does not govern those websites.

Local diagnostics

SnapDiff stores aggregate action and failure counts, activity dates, and bounded temporary markers to avoid counting the same action twice. These diagnostics stay in your browser installation and are separate from captures. The aggregate counters are not uploaded as a report. Automatic structured event reporting is described below.

There is no diagnostics dialog, report-sharing control, or usage-reporting switch. Deleting a capture does not erase aggregate counts. Diagnostics describe activity observed in this installation since collection began or was reset, not unique users or usage across all installations. Recording is best effort; download counts mean the browser accepted a download, not that the file finished saving.

Automatic PostHog usage and diagnostic reporting

SnapDiff automatically reports structured usage and diagnostics . This is part of using the extension and has no in-app opt-out. The PostHog ingestion host is a required extension permission. Firefox separately controls technical and interaction data permission and requires it to remain optional; reporting stops when that permission is not granted. SnapDiff does not bypass the browser's controls.

SnapDiff sends product action types, general failure categories, event times, extension version, browser family, build environment, and a random installation identifier. Actions include captures, comparisons, annotations, and exports. Sample activity is labeled separately. Screenshots, page URLs and titles, annotation content, accessibility findings, customer information, and raw error messages or stacks are excluded. Session replay, automatic page and click tracking, and person-profile creation are not used.

PostHog processes these requests and their network metadata, including IP addresses and browser request headers. SnapDiff disables GeoIP enrichment and sends no account identifier. The random identifier measures activity in a browser installation, not a known person or usage across all their browsers. See PostHog's Privacy Policy for the provider's handling of information.

Historical local counters are not uploaded. Clearing extension storage removes the local identifier and pending events; future use creates a new identifier. Uninstalling stops future extension reporting. The pending queue is bounded and expires after seven days; transmission is best effort. Events already sent may remain in PostHog under the project's retention settings until expiry or deletion. Resetting local diagnostics, deleting captures, or uninstalling does not delete those remote events. For a deletion request, use Help > Copy support ID before clearing storage, then contact SnapDiff with that ID.

Installation and uninstall feedback

After installation, SnapDiff opens a skippable page bundled inside the extension with a local sample comparison and a link to the documentation. Sample images are created in your browser and stay in the local library. Opening this page or sample does not upload captures or other library data.

After uninstallation, your browser opens SnapDiff's website feedback page. The visit is processed like any other website request described below. We do not receive an uninstall reason automatically. Feedback buttons open your email app with a subject line; nothing is sent unless you write and send the email.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

SnapDiff's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy's Limited Use requirements. We use that information only for the disclosed, user-facing functionality and related operations needed to provide it. We do not sell it, use it for advertising or credit decisions, or transfer it to data brokers. We do not have access to read your local capture library.

Website and documentation visits

Serving web pages requires our hosting infrastructure to process technical request information, such as your IP address, browser information, requested URL, and request time. Hosting providers may maintain operational and security logs according to their configurations and policies.

The current website code does not include advertising trackers or third-party analytics. A theme preference may be saved in your browser's local storage. Browser detection runs locally to choose an appropriate install button. Using SnapDiff does not require a website account or a visit to our website.

When you contact us

The contact page opens your email app; it does not submit a form or upload files. If you send an email, we receive your email address, any name you provide, your message, and any attachments you choose to include. We use them to respond, investigate issues, and handle your request.

Our support address is hosted by Google's Gmail service. Your email provider and Google process email under their respective terms and privacy policies. See Google's Privacy Policy. Do not send passwords or unnecessary sensitive information.

Free access

Every SnapDiff feature is free. The extension and website have no checkout or payment-provider connection. Activation keys and periodic license verification are no longer used. Updating an existing installation removes obsolete activation credentials from local settings without removing captures or preferences.

Why information is used and who receives it

We use information to provide requested functionality, answer messages, protect the service, and meet legal obligations. Where a legal basis is required, this can include performing a contract, our legitimate interests in supporting and securing the product, complying with law, or consent where required.

Information is shared with hosting, email, and analytics providers as needed for those purposes, or where disclosure is legally required. We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Providers may process information in countries other than your own; applicable legal requirements govern those transfers. Local screenshot storage is separate from these communications.

Retention, deletion, and your choices

The local library and settings do not currently have application-level encryption or a separate SnapDiff password. Protection depends on your browser profile and device security. Use appropriate device encryption and access controls for sensitive work. Local storage is not a promise of encrypted storage or regulatory compliance.

Local captures remain until you delete them, clear extension storage, uninstall the extension, or lose the browser profile. Deleting a capture removes its associated local report but does not recall exported files or copies you have shared. There is no SnapDiff cloud backup to restore. Free workflows are unlimited.

Support correspondence remains in our email account unless deleted. You may request its deletion; an unresolved issue or legal recordkeeping obligation may require continued retention. Provider logs follow their relevant policies. We do not promise an automatic deletion schedule.

You can turn off accessibility checks, control browser permissions, clear local preferences, and decide what to export or email. Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information, object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a data-protection authority. Email snapdiffco@gmail.com to make a request. We may need to verify your identity. We cannot access or recover a library stored only in your browser.

Security, children, and policy updates

No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Protect your browser profile and review sensitive content before sharing it. SnapDiff is not designed for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information through support. Contact us if you believe a child has sent us personal information.
