When SnapDiff is a practical Chromatic alternative
A designer reviewing an implemented page may not need a component test project. A product manager may need to compare two release states, or a developer may want evidence of a fix before a review. SnapDiff captures those pages in your browser and keeps the original pixels for side-by-side inspection and annotation.
Use A/B for expected versus actual, or Multi for 2-5 related states. Compatible A/B captures support pixel Diff; Multi is side-by-side review only. Your screenshots stay local, and you share downloaded files through the tools you already use.
When Chromatic is the better fit
Choose Chromatic when your team needs repeatable UI coverage, shared review, and a workflow tied to project changes. It works with Storybook, Vitest, Playwright, and Cypress, not only Storybook. Its cloud rendering and supported UI test workflows cover a different problem from manually capturing a page.
SnapDiff does not execute interaction tests, publish Storybooks, maintain shared approval baselines, or report pull-request status. Optional axe checks provide findings alongside a capture, not the equivalent of continuous accessibility coverage across a test suite.

Try a local review without replacing your Chromatic project
Keep Chromatic for the component states and flows your project already tests. Use SnapDiff when you find a visual issue while browsing: capture a reference state, capture the changed state, and annotate the difference. No migration is required to use them side by side, but SnapDiff has no Chromatic import or synchronization integration.
Reviewers can choose their own captures without setting up a SnapDiff team account. That keeps adoption simple, but exported images and local libraries are not a centralized record of approvals. Keep your formal sign-off in your existing system.

Chromatic is not Storybook-only either: its documented workflows also include Vitest, Playwright, and Cypress.

Chrome 120+ is the full-feature baseline. Desktop Firefox 153+ is a limited-feature target, not a promise of a published store listing or complete browser parity. It does not support responsive presets or browser locale simulation, even with Pro. Read the browser support guide.
